Culinary Roots

This story unfolds in the kitchens of expats scattered across Paris, each one living at a crossroads between who they were and who they are becoming. Far from families and places that shaped their earliest memories, they navigate the city with a desire for familiarity. In the smallest rituals of washing rice the way their mother did, breathing in spices they know by memory, and recreating a dish tasted in childhood; they summon fragments of home.

What emerges is a portrait of identity carried through movement: recipes recalled by heart, ingredients improvised by what the city has to offer, shared laughter and stories around the dinner table. In these moments, students stitch together new versions of belonging, building community through the simple act of feeding one another.

Culture has become about continutiy and change, moving with people through the routines of daily life. As they cook and share meals, they maintain a link to where they came from while allowing new influences to take root; forming a sense of home in a city that reveals itself slowly.
